It all began in 2005, when my friends in Baja introduced me to living foods and the phenomenal impact it had on your health. After attending three camps, it was then that I knew it was something I eventually wanted to bring to fruition back at home, the timing just had to be right.
Fast forward to 2019, in my 43rd year and having a recent, debilitating knee injury, I knew there was only one option, eat raw! Tired, overweight and exhausted from living in black’ yoga’ pants, I decided to revert back to this way of living, My big move to the beautiful Cowichan Valley with the now much more easily available farm fresh produce at my doorstep, was the kick in the butt I needed. The change in lifestyle meant giving up some of my staples, like wine and cheese(gulp),but nonetheless the overwhelming need for health superseded my taste buds.
With a long journey ahead of me, the quest to help others has been at the forefront the entire time. My holistic practice began in 2001, when I became a reflexologist.
It amazed me how mapping the feet and hands could directly effect and relieve pain. I now use it daily on myself and my family. The human body fascinates and never will never give up …unless you do.
I had heard from some wise person years ago that ,”When you hit 40, it all goes downhill from there, “which in theory is true. At age 40, our body really does decide to stay young and vital or just become old and sore. This is not our body’s choice, it is our choice. Preventative maintenance Is the key for the middle aged person. Keep moving and eat right, it’s really that simple…Or is it?
We all know that what we put in, we get out. You must burn off what you take in. Everybody knows this, yet why is it seemingly so difficult? I truly believe we have become a society of laziness and quick fixes. We want that magic pill or 2 minute abs( I mean truly. Is that even possible?)
Human beings are designed to walk hours foraging and hunting for our food, and at certain times we actually went without. Food was something we worked for and earned, not sugar packed deliciousness to be eaten in our car.
This is what’s changed, even in the past 50 years. Cancer and diabetes are at all-time record highs, and 1 in 94 Canadian children and labelled on the autism spectrum. We have done this to ourselves, only for convenience and to save money.
So back to the big picture. If we are to grow our own food and revert back to these farmer ways, we can regain our health and not worry if it’s organic, GMO’d or the carbon footprint those Florida oranges really make. Easier said than done, sure. But we are slowly, perhaps too slowly, realizing these mega food companies aren’t really interested in our health, they’re interested in their bottom line, period.
